Week 69 - Indirect Dirctions

This week, The Lord has blessed us we some great people to teach. One of them is a Korean man who has a rather unique obstacle keeping him from learning in the traditional way. He is blind. We're still not one hundred percent sure how we can help him gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon if he can't read it, and has a hard time understanding scriptural Korean when it is read to him. Thankfully, he is happy to meet with us and learn about the gospel, so I'm sure that The Lord will provide a way for him to gain a testimony.

We've been blessed with a lot of opportunities to share the gospel as we've travelled from place to place. Last week, we were out finding. One man we met was very nice, but basically was trying to get us out of his hair as soon as he could. We gave him a card and kept walking. After a few minutes, Elder Jordan felt that we needed to go back to the park and talk to the man again. so, we turned around, but as we were walking back, a man stopped us and asked if we were Americans. We got to talking, and he was really interested in architecture. He thought that the Salt Lake Temple was amazing, and really wanted to go see it someday. He also mentioned that he had read parts of the Book of Mormon and had considered "converting to the Mormon faith". We had a good conversation about how the gospel has blessed our lives. He gave us his contact details and as we were walking away, I realized that Elder Jordan had received inspiration to go back to the park to talk to the first man, not because we needed to see him again, but so we could meet the second man. It was the Lord giving us a reason to be in the right place at the right time so we could meet the right person.

My "Sacred Grove" moment, or more accurately, moments, have happened throughout my mission so far, and usually at times I would not expect them. Whether it was sitting at on a bench at UNSW, helping people in Hassall Grove, giving blessings in Winston Hills, or any of the great things that have happened so far in Summer Hill, There have been moments where it seems as though God Himself had opened the windows of heaven and lifted me to show me that what I thought was impossible was not only possible, but real. Being a missionary has shown me that the gospel isn't as hard or as burdensome as I thought it was. In fact, when we come to the Savior, he gives us rest from the burdens we carry, whatever they may be. It might be a burden of feeling like we can't live the gospel like we think we have to in order to be saved, or it might be a burden of habit, or fear, or anything else that keeps us from true happiness. The Savior simply says that we must come to him and give him whatever it is that we carry. As we take his "yoke" upon us, he will strengthen us and make our burdens light.

The first few chapters of Moroni are short, but they are of tremendous significance. From these, we have the sacrament prayers and the words of Christ.

This week, we will finish the Book of Mormon by reading Moroni 6-10. Think about this, Moroni is the last Nephite, and he knows his time is running out. He can't make any more plates, so he only has a limited space to write. These chapters are what he writes.

Love,
Elder Clark
