Week 14 - Charity Makes All the Difference

Sorry about the short letter last week, I didn't have much time to write my general letter, but hopefully, from now on, my letters should be a bit more interesting.

Great things are happening in the area, and I think that the work is going to start moving forward in a very positive way. Many of our investigators have been really receptive to the message of the gospel, and our finding efforts are starting to improve. I look forward to continuing this "marvelous work" in the next week.

We've been teaching a few of the recent converts in our area about temple work and family history. One of them has been a member for just over a year, and he seems really excited to go to the temple and receive the blessings that come from it. Another recent convert, who has been a member for about two months, has a real desire to learn more about his family history and help them to have the same blessings from the gospel that he has. Those lessons had such a strong spirit to them, and I know that the people we have taught will grow and have a greater desire to serve the Lord and their ancestors because of it.

Last week, some of the elders in our flat gave me some fantastic advice for street contacting, and I know that it would just as easily apply to any aspect of missionary work and life in general. The advice was (paraphrasing): When you see someone on the street ask yourself, "Do I love that person?", "Does God love that person?" The answer is of course, yes to both of them, and when we know that, it's so much easier to approach someone, even if you don't know them, and share something that has made each of us so happy. As I've come on my mission, I've tried to become a more Christ-like teacher and develop charity towards all men, and I think that acknowledging the love that I have for the people I meet has helped me to talk to them more naturally and freely. I've actually started to be able to set up appointments with the people I have met, and I know that it is a direct result of having charity for them.

With the start of a new transfer, we've been asked what we can do do better build companionship unity. I'm going to try to build greater companionship unity with Elder Wong by working with him more, instead of just working in the same area as him (if that makes sense). As we strive to teach "two by two" instead of "one by one", I know that the Lord will bless us with a better ability to teach, find, and work together. Elder Wong has an ability to do great work here in the UNSW area, and I know that if I learn from him more, we can make this area into something really special.

Thanks for all of the love I have felt from each of you. Know that your prayers in my behalf are answered and that this work is the work of God.

Love to everyone,
Elder Clark
