Week 34 - Welcome to Hassell Grove

Hassall Grove is very different. It's been an eye-opening experience to see how missionary work goes on in a family ward. The bishop has given us a few families to visit, and we've started to get to know the ward a bit better. One thing I know for sure is that this is going to be very different. I'm really glad that I have a chance to work with these awesome people and I'm looking forward to really making this area great!

I'm so glad I have the chance to train Elder Ezra. He's really smart, and he's going to be a great missionary. It's been a really humbling experience to be responsible for helping a new missionary begin to become the missionary he's capable of being.

This week, my core experience with God would have to be something that happened a few days ago. At the end of every day, I pray and tell God what I did that day and what I learned. Then I ask if my day's efforts have been acceptable to Him. Last week, I prayed and asked for help to grow into the missionary that this new area needs to really take off. As I've done so, I've been able to account to Heavenly Father each day and feel that I have done what he wanted me to do that day. It lets me know that although I still have a lot to learn about working in this ward, it can and will be done.

Last week at church, we were with the other elders in the ward and we were talking to a man who had been baptized previously, but didn't have too much of an understanding of the gospel. He didn't speak much English either, so it was helpful to have learned how to teach someone with limited English at UNSW. I've come to understand that the things we learn on our missions not only help us throughout our day-to-day lives, but help us within the day-to-day life of a missionary as well.

So far I've been able to come to a much greater understanding of what the spirit feels like and how to recognize promptings as they come. It's surprising how much the Spirit will help us if we just let Him. Just a few minutes ago, we were walking over to the library to write our emails when I had a prompting to ask Elder Ezra if he had brought his letter from the office for his library card. He had left it in the car, and we were able to get it before we got all the way to the library and come all the way back. It's not a substantial miracle I know, but it goes to show that God wants to help us in any way we allow him to. Through the Holy Ghost, he gives us that help. I've also learned so much more about the scriptures and what they mean to me. They've become my favorite part of a new day.
I hope you all enjoyed reading Jacob 5-7. I'm surprised at how much the Olive Tree Allegory meant to me this time. I'm glad I get to be one of those "other servants" in this part of the "vineyard".
This week, we will read Enos, Jarom, Omni, and the Words of Mormon. These books are very short and cover a lot of the history of the people of Nephi. I hope you enjoy it!
Love,
Elder Clark
