This week, we were driving to the chapel and the other elders were playing talks and mormon messages in the car. As I listened to them, it answered a lot of questions I had about being a missionary in this new area. I had been praying to know what it was that God wanted for me here, and I think that the things that were mentioned in the talks really helped me gain a better vision for myself as a missionary, as a trainer, and as a servant of the Lord. I'm thankful that the Elders were inspired to play the words of those inspired people. I know it inspired me.
This week has taught me a lot about working with the members of the ward. The Bishop has asked us to visit a few less-active families in the area, and so we've been doing a great deal of that. We were out visiting a few families today with a member, and that made it so much easier to get to know the people we visit. It's much less "threatening" (for lack of a better word) if we have someone they know with us.
The most wonderful thing that I could think of happening to me as a missionary would be to see someone who had never planned on going on a mission make the decision to serve based on the experiences they had with the missionaries. I want to see someone join the church and be set on a path that will help them progress towards the temple. Most of all, I want to be able to say that I served obediently, with all my heart, might, mind and strength. That I don't have any regrets about the service I've given and that I've given glory to God doing it.
Last week, we read the books of Enos, Jarom, Omni, and the Words of Mormon. I had a great time reading them, and picked up on a lot of things that I hadn't noticed before. Particularly that the Nephites had been doing missionary work teaching the Lamanites, although to no success. This week has taught me a lot about working with the members of the ward. Until next week,
