Week 42 - Opening Doors

Last week, I gave a training on the Christlike attribute of patience during District Meeting. This week gave me a chance to practice what I preach. We'd spent a few days trying to visit a few potential investigators, less-active members, etc... but very few of them were home or had time for us if they were. I'd been praying that we would be able to make more effective use of our time and teach more. Yesterday, we were blessed to teach 5 lessons and found a less-active member who wants us to visit him more often. We also have found a few children in our ward who need to be baptized. I know that God is opening up doors for us and helping our area to progress.

Since the other Elders in the ward had their baptismal service last week, I got to do a couple of interviews. I wasn't too sure of what to do other than just ask the questions on the list, but as I listened to how the investigators felt about baptism, I was able to gain a much better understanding of their knowledge and better teach according to their needs. The boy who was getting ready to be baptized, Jermaine, was feeling pretty nervous. I could really relate to him and shared the story of my preparing for, beginning, and progressing on my mission and share my testimony of the power of the Atonement in helping us meet our challenges, no matter what they are.

My favorite Book of Mormon experience this week was when I was reading in Alma 4. Alma had everything going for him. He was the chief judge in the government and the high priest of the church. However, upon realizing that dissension and pride were getting into the church, he gave up his position as judge so that he would be able to be completely dedicated to his calling. As he focused on fulfilling his calling, he was able to see miracles throughout the church. I'm confident that this principle applies to any and all callings.
Just one more note of the Book of Mormon: Last week we read through Alma 1-5. I mentioned that Nehor's actions would create problems throughout the rest of the Book of Mormon. You should be able to see them already appearing, and these won't be the last.
This week, we'll read Alma 6-10. In this, we'll see the result of Alma's preaching in chapter 5, as well as his "mission" around some of the cities of the Nephites.
Have an awesome week!
Love,
Elder Clark
