Week 48 - Two Sides of the Rescue

Last week, we had quite the miracle with our rescue visits. We were picked up by bishop, who had asked the person coordinating the visits to give us a few more names. When he got the list, one name popped out to him, so we went to see the family. When we first got there, I wasn't sure why we were there since I recognized a few of the family members from church, but I didn't recognize a man who was there. We sat down to talk with him and share a message. As we were talking, our
Bishop stepped in and talked about his role in helping the man and his wife (who is an active member) go to the temple to be sealed forever. As soon as he started talking about that, the man started to cry and so did his wife. The spirit touched each of them, and the man committed to start preparing himself to move forward in the gospel with his wife. I know that these rescue visits are a so powerful in helping people regain their vision of who they can become, and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Speaking of rescue visits, last week, one companionship was out visiting people, when they accidentally went to the wrong house. The woman there, Ruth, had actually been taught by the missionaries about five years ago. When she had moved to our area, she lost contact with the missionaries. When the members of our ward had come looking for a less-active member, she thought they had come to meet with her. So, we met with her last Thursday. She really likes our church, has lots of friends who are members, and thinks that what we teach is true. When we met, we brought one of the people who found her and she brought one of her friends from another ward. I learned that the gospel is learned so much more easily when it's taught by the members and the missionaries together. The lesson went really well, and she's looking forward to reading the Book of Mormon.

One of the greatest things I've learned so far as a missionary is the truly enabling power of the Atonement. Weaknesses can truly become strengths, and the unlikely can be done by the impossible. It's amazing to see what happens when we align our will with God's and do what he would have us do. The Atonement allows us to rise above what the world expects of us and become better than we are capable of becoming alone. I know that the Atonement is real.
Last week, we read the account of Alma and the others teaching the Zoramites in Alma 31-35. Chapter 32 is such a good chapter on faith, one that we use often as missionaries.
This week, we'll read Alma 36-40. Enjoy!
Love,
Elder Clark
