Week 76 - Pieces of Truth

Heavenly Father has blessed us this week. We've been able to begin working with several less-active members and resume working with another. Two of these have already given us referrals that live with them. This is going to be a great experience. One of the things that some of these members have in common is their desire to have the gospel be a bigger part of their families. Their faith that the gospel can repair their broken families is strong. While we were visiting one of them, we asked if there was anything that we could do before we left. He asked us to sing "Love at Home" with him. We were surprised, but even more so when we saw the he knew all of the words. He's been less-active for quite a few years, but it seems like this concept of the gospel blessing families is something that took root with him. This strengthens my testimony of the family being a divine institution. Even when people have been away for so long, these pieces of truth continue on in their minds and hearts.

One of the great teaching experiences we had this week was one of these less-active visits. We were planning on sharing a thought about how much we need Christ and how he can perfect us. So we decided to share 2 Nephi 4:17-20 and 30 where Nephi is talking about how even though his sins weigh him down, Christ lifts him up. When we got to the house, we started talking with him and he told us that even though he had tried to be active in the church, "Satan won" in the end. Preach My Gospel talks about adjusting your teaching to meet people's needs, but this time around, the Spirit gave us exactly what he needed before the lesson. The scripture was the hope that he needed. Regardless of what problems we're dealing with, Christ can make us holy, pure, and celestial.

Elder Jordan is such a great missionary. In the eleven weeks he's been in the field, he's become a powerful and effective missionary. He is diligent in his work, and he is driven by his purpose to invite others to come unto Christ. Working with him is a pleasure. He picks up on skills quickly and applies them into his own work whenever he can. We've had a lot of good experiences together, and I'm glad that I have had the honor of training him in the mission field. He's going to accomplish so much good on his mission.

I hope that Preach My Gospel Chapter 5 helped you learn something new about the Book of Mormon. I know that over the course of my mission, the power of the Book of Mormon has changed me and has shown me the gospel of Jesus Christ in a whole new perspective.

Now we will read one of my favorite chapters, Chapter 6: Christlike Attributes. This is another chapter that has shaped who I am and who I've become.
Love,

Elder Clark
