Week 88 - Toblerone!

It's been a pretty good week. We've had a lot of opportunities to invite people to church as we've followed up on referrals and searched for less-active members. It's taught me how easy it is to share the gospel in seemingly insignificant and normal circumstances. It's been a great experience in teaching when you find. That's been something I've been forgetting to do lately. I've been so focused on plan A that I've neglected the possibilities that plan B offers. I realize that I need to change and remember that even if the unexpected or even undesired happens, maybe this is what the Lord intended to happen all along, so I should just roll with it.

Chul-Hee finished the Book of Mormon this week. That came as a total surprise, and it's great to see that he's reached such a milestone. Yesterday, we were talking about the Law of Chastity and the Law of Tithing. I don't think I've ever taught those lessons in Korean before, so it made my language study throughout the week a bit more tense, but the lesson itself went pretty well. Chul-Hee is on track for his baptism on Saturday. I know that I've had to rely on the power of the Holy Ghost more than I ever have before. With my Korean, sometimes I can barely teach lessons, let alone teaching people, but I really love Chul-Hee, and I know that the gospel is going to bless his life like nothing else. I know that Heavenly Father has given him the understanding and desire that he has to live it.

I mentioned earlier in my letter that we've had some great opportunities to share the gospel with people other than we've intended to meet. One of these happened on Tuesday. We had an appointment with a new investigator that we had found last week. We arrived at the square where we planned to meet. It was pouring rain. We couldn't see him, and when we called him, the number didn't work. We had been effectively bailed on. Since we were in the area, we went to try to meet a church headquarters referral that we received months ago and had tried to contact a few times, but to no success. We went to his boarding house and knocked on the door a couple of times. One of the other residents, John, stuck his head out from his room, so we asked if our referral was at the house. John said that he wasn't home often, but we got to talking to John about the Restoration. He turned down our invitations to attend church and to learn more, but the blessing that we had of testifying to him made it all worth it. On a somewhat connected note, President Hamilton (our stake president) came to our ward yesterday and reminded me again about how the success of missionary work is in the invitation. I know that this is true.
