Week 87 - Happy Australia Day and Happy Birthday Makenzie!

This week has gone really well. Chul-Hee is still progressing well, and we've been able to find some people who we can start working with. On Saturday, we got a referral for a friend of a member in another stake who needed help moving. We traveled out to the house and got to work. The moving truck was running quite late, so we weren't able to start loading things on for about an hour. We started talking to the friend's brother, Othow, about missionary work and the Restoration of the Gospel. He was really receptive and accepted a copy of the Book of Mormon, as well as an invitation to learn more. He lives in the South Mission, so we've referred him to them. I'm thankful for the teaching opportunity that came from a simple act of service. It's likely that we wouldn't have met him otherwise. I know that Heavenly Father uses many different means to reach out to his children.

We had a lesson with Chul-Hee on Thursday about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I don't think I've ever worked so hard to prepare for a lesson in Korean. My language study for nearly a week was devoted to this one lesson, and I was really hoping it weat. I found myself knowing what to say and remembering how to say it. This has been my fould go well. The lesson still wasn't perfect, but I know that Heavenly Father made this lesson gravorite experience speaking Korean so far.

I came to understand something from the missionary handbook this week as I was reading it. Page 7 says "Righteous conduct will influence your effectiveness as a missionary and your personal salvation." The lesson I learned from that is that there is so much more to obedience as a missionary than just living by certain standards for a period of two years. One of the greatest blessings that we can receive is a habit of being obedient in the future. By establishing a good foundation of gospel living now, the potential to build on it in the future will grow. Doctrine and Covenants 93 says: "And that wicked one cometh and taketh away light and truth, through disobedience, from the children of men.". Conversely, obedience leads to greater light and truth, which can then grow brighter and brighter until the perfect day.
Love, as always,
Elder Clark
